Hi adventurer! Do you have a trip to Tanzania in mind and are looking for the best beaches in Zanzibar? You’re in the right place 😉. This archipelago located on the east coast of Africa, is known for its beaches with crystal clear waters and white sands. We venture to say it’s home to some of the best beaches in the world. Surprise! At Howlanders you’ll find an 11-day trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar where you can enjoy them. Here are our favorites:

Nungwi Beach

This beach is located in the north of the island and is famous for its stunning sunsets and lively atmosphere. First, you will love the soft white sand and the crystal clear turquoise water. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Zanzibar. Also, if you like diving or snorkeling, you will really enjoy the marine fauna you will find there. But, be careful with the tides, because they can rise very fast and catch you.

If you stay until sunset, you will be able to see a spectacular sunset, and then you can go to dinner at one of the many restaurants on the beach. But be careful, don’t accept the prices they give you at the first time, they usually haggle a little.

Paje Beach

Paje Beach is another of the best beaches in Zanzibar. It is in the east of the island and is characterized by strong tides. Here you will find a relaxed atmosphere and a dream beach with crystal clear waters and silky soft sand. But not only that, you can also practice water sports such as kitesurfing, because this beach is known as one of the best in the world for this activity.

In addition, if you like the nightlife, here you will find a lot of bars and nightclubs to spend a fun night. But it’s not all about partying, you can also visit the village of Paje and learn more about its culture and people. And don’t worry about the food, here you will find a great variety of restaurants with local and international dishes for all tastes.

Jambiani

Jambiani beach is one of the most remote beaches of Zanzibar and that is why it is one of our favorites. It has a length of 7 km and is located southeast of the island. It has hardly any rocks and the sand is very very fine. Needless to say that the water is crystal clear, as in the rest of the island, postcard.

When the tide goes out, the beach expands and you can walk for miles to the sea. The landscape changes completely and is a real wonder. It is a very quiet and uncrowded beach.

Kendwa Beach

Kendwa Beach is in the north of Zanzibar and is a continuation south of Nungwi Beach. It is a long, wide and palm-lined beach. It is located in the village with the same name, and is one of the most popular (here is one of the best resorts in Zanzibar).

Some say that this beach is the most beautiful of all Zanzibar. You’ll have to go to make your own opinion 😉. The truth is that it has hardly any waves, it is a very clean beach and the color of the sea makes you want to stay and live.

💡 In our trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar, this is the closest beach to the accommodation.

Bwejuu Beach

This is the beach of a small isolated village between Paje and Michamvi, on the southeastern coast of Zanzibar. Its sand has an extension of about 10 kilometers up to where a coral lagoon surrounded by palm trees begins. For this very reason, this beach is different from the others.

On this beach you feel that the world has stopped, as there is little hustle and bustle and it is totally quiet. However, it offers a wide range of water activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, paddle surfing and kite surfing.

Matemwe Beach

Located on the east coast of Zanzibar, this beach is one of the longest on the island. During low tide, the water goes down 2 kilometers, and the locals take advantage of it to collect marine animals.

The beach is beautiful but yes, in this particular one, it is essential to enter the water with great care and even appropriate footwear, as there are a lot of sea urchins. Anyway, this does not prevent Matemwe Beach from being on our list of best beaches in Zanzibar, it is still spectacular.

Kiwengwa Beach

This beach is another favorite destination for travelers from all over the world. It is located on the northeast coast of Zanzibar, 40 km from Stone Town, the capital of the archipelago. At Kiwengwa beach the tides are strong and the water is warm, clean and clear.

In the town of the same name, there is a lot of entertainment, nightclubs and restaurants. For this reason, it is a noisy but fun beach.
