Without a doubt, the Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley 2 day tour is the favorite of our travelers. It is a way to visit a great number of interesting points in only two days such as the Sacred Valley, Aguas Calientes, the Ollantaytambo fortress and of course Machu Picchu. We also offer the Machu Picchu tour in one or two days departing from Cuzco, in which the Sacred Valley is not visited.

Train to Machu Picchu

If you decide to trek to Machu Picchu, please note that all our tours to Machu Picchu include the return train ticket for the trekking tours where you arrive on foot, and the return train ticket for the others.

Keep in mind

Machu Picchu Trekking Tours

If you are one of the most adventurous, we have prepared a series of tours in Machu Picchu that are based on trekking routes to reach the Inca ruins.

There are different paths that you can take to reach the same goal, so look for the one that best suits your preferences and get ready for the adventure. Here are the most popular ones:

Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

The iconic route of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is included among the most popular treks in the world. The tour to the original Inca Trail has a duration of 4 days, in which you always walk at an altitude close to 4,000 meters and visit different archaeological sites. It is a perfect route to know in detail the Inca culture, in addition, you will access Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate.

Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu

The Salkantay 4-day trek is becoming more and more popular and takes you through the first two days through the Andean zone, visiting the Humantay Lagoon. The second part of the trek takes you to a lower altitude, a cloud forest ecosystem with a much warmer climate and totally different vegetation. If you are a nature lover you will love this option.

If you want more information to help you decide, we recommend you read our post in which we tell the differences between Salkantay and Inca Trail.

At what altitude is Machu Picchu?

You may think that the most famous Inca city in the world, being between mountains, has a higher altitude than Cusco, the city from which all our tours to Machu Picchu depart. Not so! 😱

Machu Picchu is 2,430 meters above sea level, while Cusco sits at 3,399 meters. In fact, some travelers decide to stay the first night in Ollantaytambo and from there take some of the train tours to Machu Picchu, this way the change in altitude is not so abrupt.

Keep in mind that climbing quickly to a higher altitude can confuse your body and cause certain symptoms of altitude sickness. Don't worry! The only thing you have to do is rest, eat well before doing any of the tours in Machu Picchu and take it easy.
