El Calafate Tours

El Calafate is the gateway to the iconic Perito Moreno Glacier. Located in Argentine Patagonia, this charming town is one of the country’s top destinations thanks to its proximity to Los Glaciares National Park.

At Howlanders, we bring nature lovers closer to Patagonia’s wonders with a variety of El Calafate tours. You can admire the glaciers from the panoramic footbridges, hike directly on the Perito Moreno Glacier, or even kayak among floating icebergs. Ready for an adrenaline rush?

El Calafate is without a doubt one of the most breathtaking destinations in Argentine Patagonia—a natural treasure and a must-visit for any adventure traveler.

Boat Tours in El Calafate

Visit the Perito Moreno Glacier and sail Lake Argentino with the boat tours in El Calafate. Any of the excursions is an absolute must while visiting El Calafate and by extension, Los Glaciares National Park.

There are four different boating tours, below we've detailed each one:

Glaciares Gourmet Boat Tour

Glaciares Gourmet is the only boat tour that includes the five main glaciers in its itinerary: Upsala, Spegazzini, Perito Moreno, Heim, and Seco. Another tour perk? Disembark at Puesto Las Vacas and take a 30-minute hike before returning to the boat for lunch.

Todo Glaciares boat tour (All Glaciers)

Todo Glaciares (All Glaciers) is a very comprehensive boat tour, in which the itinerary includes four of the main glaciers (including Perito Moreno), disembarks for lunch, and a walk with views of the Spegazzini Glacier. This excursion also features a great restaurant, footbridges, and viewpoints; allowing for scenic strolls.

Safari Azul (Blue Safari)

The Safari Azul is a shorter boat tour, but the only one that allows visitors to get up close and personal with the Perito Moreno Wall. This feature of the excursion is what makes it a very popular choice for travelers who do not want to do the minitrek on the glacier but want to see it up close. This excursion also includes a visit to the Perito Moreno footbridges.

Mayo Spirit Trek boat tour

Mayo Spirit Trek is a boat tour that allows visitors to walk through more remote areas of the park. It is a combination of boat trips to access several areas that have short hiking trails. Visitors sail to the Perito Moreno Wall and disembark to visit the footbridges overlooking the glacier.

Minitrekking Perito Moreno

Minitrekking is undoubtedly the most popular tour in El Calafate. It consists of a short boat trip passing close to the glacier wall to reach a beach. Always accompanied by a guide and equipped with crampons, visitors will walk on the ice of the Perito Moreno Glacier for an hour and a half. In addition, if guests select the option with transfers from El Calafate, you'll also visit the footbridges of the Perito Moreno Glacier.

The most adventurous travelers can opt for the Big Ice Perito Moreno, the most demanding version of the mini trekking in which hikers walk for 3 hours on the glacier.

Tours to Perito Moreno from El Calafate

In addition to boat tours in El Calafate or walking on the ice of the Perito Moreno, there are other excursions to take advantage of:

Kayaking in the Perito Moreno

A tour in which visitors will kayak to the Perito Moreno Wall, surrounded by small icebergs that have broken off from the glacier.

El Calafate to Perito Moreno Foodbridges Tour

Including a transfer from El Calafate, this tour consists of a visit to the footbridges of the Perito Moreno Glacier and a short boat ride to appreciate the glacier wall more closely.
