Punta Arenas Tours and Day Trips

You can visit Magdalena and Marta islands, Tierra del Fuego, the King Penguin Park, or Torres del Paine in one day. Other options include whale and glacier boat trips and hikes to places such as Mount Tarn and San Isidro Lighthouse.

From Punta Arenas, you can go sailing, wildlife watching, kayaking, and hiking. The city is also a convenient connection point for Puerto Natales, Torres del Paine, Ushuaia, and other destinations in Argentine Patagonia.

The Torres del Paine day tour operates throughout the year, along with some land-based tours and transfers to Puerto Natales. Penguin tours, whale watching, and certain boat trips are seasonal.

Magellanic penguins can be seen on Magdalena Island, reached by boat from Punta Arenas. Another option is the King Penguin Park in Tierra del Fuego, which requires a full-day trip including a ferry crossing.

Punta Arenas is better suited to travelers interested in boat trips, wildlife, local history, and the Strait of Magellan. Puerto Natales is more focused on hiking, mountain scenery, and trips into Torres del Paine, so the two destinations work well together.
