Mayo Spirit Trek from El Calafate

Duration: 10 hours

Pick up in El Calafate

At 8:00 am. our guide will pick you up at your hotel in El Calafate. We will travel by road to Punta Bandera where a boat will be waiting for us. It is time to set sail.

Hike through the Andean Patagonian Forest

Our first stop will be Bahía Toro. We will walk through the Andean Patagonian Forest while the guide shows us the great variety of trees in the area. We will visit a centenary “guindo” tree with a trunk of more than three meters in diameter.

Calcareous Waterfalls

We will continue walking until we reach a waterfall formed by calcareous rocks of more than 590 feet (180 m), high. We will follow the stream formed by the waterfall until we get back to the boat.

Navigation and Seno Mayo Hike

From the boat, we will be able to observe the hanging glaciers of Cerro Mayo and Cerro Negro. If you want to see this landscape more closely, do not worry, we will disembark and start a hike of 1000 meters through the forest to reach the glaciers.

Perito Moreno Glacier walkways and return

After spending some time observing the views, we return to the ship to navigate to the north wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Here we will walk along the walkways and enjoy the scenery. We will finish our Mayo Spirit Trek returning to El Calafate.

Where does the tour Mayo Spirit Trek start

The city of El Calafate is located 3,000 km from Buenos Aires, and 325 km from the city of Río Gallegos, capital of the province of Santa Cruz. The airport has direct daily connections with Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, Bariloche, Trelew, Córdoba, and Rosario. Several airlines operate this route, being Aerolineas Argentinas the most frequent. If you want to arrive by land, you can do it by bus. The trip between Buenos Aires and El Calafate takes about 36 hours. From Río Gallegos, the trip takes 4 hours. If you come from Puerto Natales, we recommend you to take a bus that arrives in El Calafate in about five hours.
