Wanda Mines & San Ignacio Ruins Tour

Pickup in Puerto Iguazú

The Wanda Mines & San Ignacio Ruins Tour begins with pickup at your accommodation in Puerto Iguazú. Once the group has gathered, you’ll head inland into the province of Misiones to begin a day immersed in nature, history, and local culture.

Wanda Mines

The first stop will be at the Wanda Mines, known for their semiprecious stones such as amethyst, agate, topaz, and quartz. Accompanied by a local guide, you’ll explore the mines and learn how these minerals are formed and extracted.

After the visit, you’ll continue through the province of Misiones until you reach San Ignacio.

San Ignacio – Interpretation Center and Jesuit Ruins

Upon arrival in San Ignacio, you’ll have time for lunch before continuing with the tour.

💙 HOWLANDERS TIP: You don’t need to bring a packed lunch. During the excursion, you’ll have free time to eat at one of the restaurants in San Ignacio. Lunch is not included in the tour.

You’ll visit the interpretation center, where you’ll learn about the historical context of the Jesuit-Guaraní missions, before exploring the San Ignacio Miní Ruins with a local guide. You’ll walk among the remains of the church, the plaza, the dwellings, and other structures that formed part of this former Jesuit mission, now designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Yerba Mate Production

On your way back to Puerto Iguazú, you’ll stop at a yerba mate production facility to learn about one of Misiones’ most iconic products. You’ll see the yerba mate plant up close and discover how it is processed to produce the yerba used to prepare traditional mate.

After the visit, you’ll continue the journey back to your accommodation in Puerto Iguazú, where the tour will end.
