📍 Pick up in Salta
The excursion to San Antonio de los Cobres will start with the pick-up at your accommodation in Salta. Pick-up can be between 6:30 and 7:15 in the morning. Once the group is assembled, the day begins!
Campo Quijano - Quebrada del Toro - Chorrillo Station
The first stop will be Campo Quijano, where you will see the first steam engine that ran the famous train to the clouds. Then you will enter the Quebrada del Toro, where the guide will explain the history of the construction of the C14 branch line, stopping at the El Toro Viaduct. Admire its altitude of 35 meters high and its length of almost 400 meters.
The next stop will be at the Chorrillos Station, where you will be able to observe a great zig zag, an internationally recognized engineering work.
Alfarcito - Tastil Ruins
Once you arrive at Alfarcito, you will make a technical stop to use the restrooms and cafeteria if you need it.
Then you will follow the road to Tastil, where you will enter the Tastil Ruins for about 50 minutes. The guide will explain everything about these pre-Inca city ruins and the differences between the architecture of the Incas and the Diaguitas.
Pompeii Thermal Baths - La Polvorilla Viaduct
Next, along the way, you will see the Pompeii Thermal Baths with their colors forming the thermal minerals. Then you will arrive at the magnificent La Polvorilla Viaduct. Take the opportunity to take the best pictures and walk around this place. You can buy some souvenirs from the artisans you will find there.
The viaduct is 64 meters high, 268 meters long and is located at 4,200 meters above sea level, a unique structure worldwide.
San Antonio de los Cobres
Finally, you will arrive in San Antonio where you will see the solidified lava of the volcano. It is time for lunch after the excursion to San Antonio de los Cobres. You will also have time to visit the handicraft market, the dry square, the church and some places of this town in the Puna Salteña. You can even visit the Train to the Clouds train station.
