On the border with Argentina, 134 km from Puerto Natales and 65 km from the National Park is the Sierra Baguales. An isolated volcanic mountain range unique in Patagonia.

With the Tour Sierra Baguales you will make a 12 km guided trek among marine fossils more than 50 million years old. You will visit Laguna Irene, an ideal place to observe and photograph birds (such as the Andean condor). And you will have an approach to the local indigenous history and the process of colonization of Patagonia at Estancia 3R.

A one day tour with transfers from Puerto Natales included to discover landscapes totally opposite to those offered by the Torres del Paine National Park.

Pick-up in Puerto Natales

The guide will pick you up at your accommodation in Puerto Natales between 07:30 - 08:00 in the morning. It is important to be at the door of your hotel at least 15 minutes before.

You will board the minibus and head towards Sierra Baguales, located north of Puerto Natales and very close to the border with Argentina.

Laguna Irene Sector - Birdwatching

Before reaching the starting point of the trek, we will stop at Estancia 3R, 120 km from Puerto Natales. At the estancia itself, you will take a short half-hour walk to the Laguna Irene sector. There you will be able to observe birds such as the Andean condor.

You will have a first approach to the local indigenous history and the colonization process of Chilean Patagonia, and then we will board the minibus again.

Sierra Baguales Trekking

In just a few minutes, you will arrive at the point where we will begin the 12 km. trek of medium intensity.

The trail will start on an ascending slope from where you can see the Bagual mountain range. Home of pumas, guanacos and horses. You will reach a panoramic viewpoint located at 1,200 meters above sea level. Here we will make a short stop to have lunch and take pictures.

💬 Remember to bring water and something to eat in your backpack. This tour does not include lunch-box.

Return to Puerto Natales

After a refreshing break, we will begin our descent along the same trail. The minibus will be waiting for us at the same point where we left it to take us back to Puerto Natales. You will arrive at your accommodation at approximately 17:30.

If you didn't know that all of Patagonia was once a marine place, no doubt at the end of the Sierra Baguales tour you will be able to confirm it. Hundreds of marine fossils millions of years old will be waiting for you on its trails.

Where does the tour Sierra Baguales start

The tour starts in the city of Puerto Natales. If you are traveling from Santiago de Chile the best option is to take a flight to Punta Arenas, and from there you can take a bus that in only 3:15 hours will take you to the bus station in Puerto Natales or hire a private transportation service with us.

If you are traveling from El Calafate (Argentina), there are buses that connect directly to Puerto Natales in a 5 hour trip or you can book a private service with us.
