I loved the trek. The pace was good for me.  As a 62 year old solo female traveller I did not feel compelled to try and keep up with the much younger crew.  Some of the downhill parts of the tracks were challenging for me but I just went slowly. The scenery more than made up for the physical effort spent. The interaction with a continuing indigenous culture is an unforgettable experience and I express my gratitude to them for sharing their life with me and others.  I did the five day trek and  really appreciated the last night in the Colombian Rainforest to enjoy the peace and quiet and spend quality time in the beautiful river. An extra 17ks but less people and a less challenging track whilst still being in the forest and alongside the mighty river. Loved it.

We had a great time with magic tours! Indio, our guide was the sweetest and made our trip even better. Would highly recommend :)

Es war ein sehr anstrengendes Trekking mit vielen mühsamen Aufstiegen. Aber jeder einzelne Tropfen Schweiss war die Mühe wert! Welch ein Privileg lost city zu besuchen!  Ich buchte die 5-Tage Tour, da ich dachte dann sei es weniger anstrengend😁, aber wir waren uns einig, dass diese Tour noch anstrengender war. Gleichzeitig empfanden wir aber  
den Extrateil als den Besten - lost city natürlich ausgenommen😍 und ich würde es auf jeden Fall wieder so machen. Das Essen war auch lecker und was auch toll war sind die "Früchtepausen" unterwegs😊. Tolles Erlebnis, dass ich zu 100% empfehlen kann!

This review consists of two separate parts: Magic Tour Company and the trek itself (4 days)

Magic Trek Company: this company is very well organized and professional.  The staff are fantastic and seem to really love what they do.  Brian, Victor, Choco and Omar were kind and attentive to the needs of every team member.  Being an older hiker (51yrs), the pace I had was much slower than the younger members.  Not once did I feel rushed and they always kept a distance behind so that I could enjoy the view and feel alone in my thoughts.  
The food provided was plentiful.  I was surprised at the amount that we were given.  I appreciated  being offered coffee and juices at numerous times of the day, while at the camps.  The cookies for dessert were an added bonus.  
The sleeping arrangements were also more than what I was expecting.  Having done my research for the trip, I was prepared to be sleeping in a hammock.  An actual bed with a mosquito net was heavenly after a day of gruelling hiking.  My blanket smelled of dryer sheets and after stinking from your own sweat in the day, a pleasant smell at night is heavenly.

The trek itself: as with so many other reviews, the scenery was amazing.  The mountains, valleys, rivers and fields were breathtaking and never-ending.  The actual lost city is quite impressive in its design and size.  Many pictures only show the classic “three circle” shot.  The site is much larger than this.  I also truly appreciated being allowed to see this site, thanks to the indigenous groups who still live on the lands.

I found that getting to and from the site is a bit deceptive.  The trek is marketed as being 46km out and back.  This is likely based on horizontal distance.  Please be aware that the actual amount of hiking is much further.  For day two and day three my Fitbit clocked almost 27km each day! Day one and day four were at about 18km each.  Not only is it much further, it has very significantly steep ascents and descents.  This alone might not be bad if you are in a decent amount of shape but you also need to factor in the heat, humidity, mosquitos (many people had lots but I was spared) and most importantly the rain.  When it rained the landscape becomes extremely dangerous.  Day three’s hike takes you across many rocks and up the 1200 very steep and narrow steps to the lost city.  Going up wasn’t bad but coming down was very scary. There isn’t a whole lot to hang on to. I fell from slipping on the rock steps.  
The other very serious danger is the mud, once the trails get wet.  The very steep declines combined with water made it a treacherous slip and slide.  Many people fell numerous times.  Not the safest, in my opinion.
I wanted to include the dangers of the trek in a bit more detail because I didn’t find a whole lot about this on the web.  The more accurate the information, the better the informed decision.

Overall, an amazing experience.  Perhaps a bit more safety around the dangerous parts could allow more people to fully enjoy it.

I had an amazing time with Magic Tours. Their team were really helpful, food and accommodation surpassed expectation too. My group waa great and every day we had opportunities to swim and unwind after some long walks. 

I was supposed to do 5 days but only did 4 days as my entire group was doing the 4 days so it made sense to stop with them rather than go another day alone with chef and guide!

The trek was amazing and the guides were the best, Laula and her husband made sure we were all safe and looked after us exceptionally well, I can't recommend them highly enough. I was disappointed with the company though, I paid for a five day hike, but they didn't even know that when I contacted them, so they didn't have a group doing five days, they were going to hand me off to a friend for the last day, I decided to stay with my group because we had formed a bond, and so I left on the 4th day with everyone else. I hope you can give me a refund for the last day as this was very disappointing. It's not the guides fault, it's the company organisation.

El tour espectacular! No esperábamos algo así!  Fue durillo pero mereció la pena el esfuerzo! La experiencia inolvidable, el guía Juan Carlos con 30 años de experiencia en Ciudad Perdida toda una suerte! Los campamentos, la comida los compañeros de viaje ni una sola queja. Todo muy bien organizado. Se lo recomiendo a todo aquel que le guste el senderismo que lo va a disfrutar. Los paisajes son espectaculares. Merece la pena los 5 días porque el último tienes la oportunidad de ver cascadas y bañarte en la Cascada Sagrada. Además de que regresas por otro camino sin tener que repetir lo andado.

My partner & I went with Magic tour for the 5-day version of the Lost City hike in March 2023. We didn't know fully what we were getting into but we pleasently surprised & so happy with the decision we made. Our group in total had around 15 people doing the trek together which seems rather large but we were given a total of 4 guides to help us along the way which meant that there was also a guide up at the front for the fast walkers & a guide at the back for the slowers ones. My group had Jhon & Jose as our main guides, both of which grew up in the mountains near the Lost City as farmers. They knew EVERYHTING when it cames to the area, including an understanding of the indiginous culture that you'll see a lot of around which was very important to me. They were very respectful. Santos worked as our english translator for the group & really made us feel like family on the journy. I'd highly recommend trying to get those three for the hike if possible. One of the best things our group did specifally was we were woken up a little bit earlier than all the other tour groups on the third day so that we could have time to get to the Lost City before the other groups did. This allowed us to get uninterrupted pictures without other people in the background & truely expierence the beauty.

My partner & I split off from the main group (who did the 4day trek) with our guide Jhon. He took us through some brand new routes that weren't in the 4-day version so the way back wasn't just the same way back. There was parts of the land that Jhon grew up in so he had so much to share & was so passionate about sharing it. The views were absolutely stunning & the days were a lot more relaxed & a bit shorter than the intense days with the bigger group walking towards the city. I can't recommend doing this version enough, it's certainly worth it.

Calling it a hike is a grand understatement of this adventure.  This is a 4 day hike through the Colombian jungle.  Overcoming your own self doubts and limitations.  This adventure is something everyone should experience.  I absolutely loved it and the city itself was quite the powerful experience.  The group started out at 13 strangers.  By the end it was one friend group.  I wouldn’t have chosen to do it with anyone else.  Do this adventure.

I loved this trip and it was the perfect amount of challenge.  I am fairly fit and regularly do endurance exercise, so I was worried I might feel like it was too easy.  But it wasn't at all.  It was the perfect mix of "good workout" to feel sufficiently tired at the end of each day with time to relax, soak in the scenery, eat good food (the food was delicious!), take pictures, go swimming, learn about the indigenous and their history, and get to know the others on the hike.  I really appreciated that there were enough trip guides that they could split up and one or two could go with the faster hikers, and then one or two could be sweepers.  That way we could all go our own pace.  

I would definitely recommend this tour!  

El camino es una pasada si te gusta el trek, aunque la humedad lo hace un poco dificil para aclimatarte. Durante los 5 días te unen a un grupo que también hace los 5 días cómo tu. Lo pasamos genial e hicimos muchas migas. Sobre todo con otros dos españoles que también viajaban solos como yo. Nuestro guía Diego fue lo mejor, siempre animándonos y explicando historias sobre Sierra Nevada. La diferencia con el grupo de 4 días fue que el último día nos quedamos en una termas del campamento. Si tienes un día de sobra es un día de relax total, lo recomiendo. Si vas a Colombia y no visitas Ciudad Perdida más vale que no vayas.
