todayDAY 1 Cusco - Chinchero - Maras - Moray

access_time8 : 30 AM
We will be picked up at our accommodation in Cusco and start our journey to the first stop: Chinchero, located around 30 km from Cusco and part of the historical heritage of Peru. There, we will visit the artisanal market and learn about the process of weaving llama wool into clothing. After our visit to the market, we head to the nearby salt mines.
access_time11 : 30 AM
The salt mines of Maras are only 52 km away from Cusco. Once we arrive at the pits, the guide will explain the extraction process of the salt and we are going to have time to take photographs of the mining operation in process.
access_time1 : 00 PM
Finally, we will visit the archaeological area of Moray. The Quechuas used this place as an agrarian laboratory. Here they experimented with different crops and planting techniques to compensate for the difficulties in growing large quantities of crops due to the climatic variations at different altitudes. After our visit to this ancient testing ground, we will return to the center of Cusco, where we will arrive around 3:00 PM.

Where does the tour Maras Moray start

Cusco is the main tourist city of Peru and is very well connected. If you plan to arrive from Lima, you can get to Cusco by bus (24 hour trip) or take a one hour flight. You can choose between low cost airlines like Peruvian Airlines, LCP or StarPeru or full-service airlines like Latam and Avianca. If you plan to arrive from Arequipa, the bus ride to Cusco will take roughly ten hours. Alternatively you can also arrive by plane, in this case, however, the only airline that offers direct flights is Latam Airlines. If you plan to arrive from Puno, the best option is to take a bus on a six hour trip. We also offer the possibility to take a tourist bus route that stops in the most important places and landmarks along the way, leaving Puno at 7:00 AM and arriving at Cusco at 5:30 PM.
