To go caving and canyoning in Valporquero you do not need previous experience. However, if you choose the extra "Caving and Canyoning in the Sima de Perlas" you must have previous experience in rappelling.

From the meeting point to the beginning of the activity, we will each travel in our vehicle and the trip will take about 10 minutes.

The order of the visits could be altered, but it will not affect the content of the program. The schedules of the tickets and transports could be subject to modifications.

Caving and Canyoning in Valporquero consists of descending through ravines and natural obstacles such as waterfalls, lakes, jumps and slides but inside a cave. It combines different experiences to be able to live a real adventure in just one day.

You can enjoy the crystal clear water of the underground river and observe the stalactites and stalagmites of Valporquero cave, one of the most important tourist caves in Spain.

Not only that, but we will also go into the La Folfoguera waterfall, located in the heart of the Los Arg√ľellos Biosphere Reserve, with waterfalls up to 25 metres high.

Meeting Point We will meet at 09:00 a.m. or 4:00 p.m. at the El Pescador restaurant located in the town of Felmín. When the group is reunited, we will use our own vehicle to move to the starting point of the activity (it is only a 10 minute drive).

Valporquero Cave We will enter in the Valporquero Cave, one of the most important tourist caves in Spain. We will enjoy its impressive stalactites and stalagmites, and its more than 3000 meters of galleries and rooms of more than 60 meters high.

Caving & Canyoning in Valporquero cave We will follow the path of the underground river with crystal clear water and go through siphons, narrow passages, jumps, natural slides and waterfalls. During the tour, the specialist guide will explain everything about the typical formations of the cave.

La Folfoguera Waterfall Leaving the Valporquero Cave, the La Folguera Waterfall awaits us, located in the heart of the Los Arg√ľellos Biosphere Reserve. We will descend two incredible waterfalls of up to 25 meters high and we will rappel surrounded by a spectacular landscape.
Canyoning Howlanders
Zip line over the Torío River After discovering Valporquero Cave inside and descending the Waterfall of La Folfoguera, we will end up on a zip line that crosses the Torío River (if the flow is high) in the incomparable setting of the Hoces de Vegacervera.

Sima de Perlas If you like risk and want to add more adrenaline to your day, you can select the extra Sima de Perlas during the booking process. The Sima de Perlas is a secondary entrance to the Valporquero Cave considered the most spectacular. It has rappels hanging in the void at more than 25 meters high and vertical shafts of 100 meters deep - it’s amazing! ;)

What to bring to Caving & Canyoning

To go caving in Valporquero Cave we recommend you take
  • Hiking boots or sneakers that protect the ankle and can get wet
  • A thermal lycra shirt or similar (never cotton)
  • Swimsuit and towel
  • Change of clothes

Where does the tour Caving & Canyoning start

The most convenient way to access the Caves of Valporquero from the city of León is via the LE-311 to Robles de la Valcueva. Here we will take the LE-315 to Felmín and finally, the CV-106-16 to the village of Valporquero.

Questions & Answers

Is the tour suspended because of rain?
No! Being inside the cave, we're not worried about the rain. We will only suspend the activity in case of a strong storm that prevents us from doing the canyoning part. In case this happens, we will propose another date to enjoy the activity but if you can't, don't worry, we will also give you the option to get your money back.

How big are the groups?
The groups are of a maximum of 10 people.

Do I have to be in a certain physical condition to be able to go caving at Valporquero?
No. To do caving at Valporquero you do not need previous experience, just an acceptable physical level. However, if you choose the extra spelunking at the Sima de Perlas, which corresponds to a more advanced level, you must have previous experience in abseiling.

How long does the activity last?
If you decide to do Level I of caving at Valporquero Caves, the activity has an average duration of 3-4 hours. If you also choose to go caving in the Sima de Perlas, it will last about 4-5 hours.
