The path of the Seven Lakes is a classic tour through the Andes’ forests of Patagonia, Argentina. This road trip will take you to most emblematic places in the area.

You will visit three cities, two national parks and eight lakes. Eight? You read that right. Nahuel Huapi, a glacier lake that is twice the size of Buenos Aires City, will accompany us throughout the entire way. This tour is ideal for those who want to travel the seven lakes route in one day. It also does not require physical effort, so it is recommended for all types of travelers.

Extensive forests, snowy peaks and crystal clear water... A day of pure disconnection and natural beauty. You will travel 220 miles (355 km), and you will have free time to eat and walk around San Martín de Los Andes and Villa La Angostura. Will you taste their famous chocolates?

The tour begins with the pick-up at your accommodation. Depending on your location, the vehicle will pick you up between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. Once the group is gathered in Bariloche, you will head towards Villa La Angostura. Here you will make the first stop. If you want to, you can get some snacks, go to the bathroom and grab a cup of coffee. This way you’ll be wide awake to discover the mountain landscapes that await you.

The path to the lakes begins! You will pass the lakes Correntoso, Espejo, Escondido, Villarino, Falkner and Machonico. Cold, large, and majestic: each of the lakes has something special. The colors vary from turquoise to emerald green. If you are lucky enough to find Espejo lake on a quiet day, you’ll find out that it perfectly reflects the surroundings in the water and creates a unique landscape. In all the lakes there are viewpoints, from where you will enjoy and take spectacular photographs. Will you dare to dip your feet in meltwater?

At noon you will arrive at San Martín de Los Andes, the famous village encased in a valley. You will have 2 free hours to eat lunch and tour the city on the shores of Lácar Lake. The guides will advise you, so you can choose the places you want to visit and enjoy the best local cuisine.

After lunch, you will take the back to Villa La Angostura. You’ll have time to explore this beautiful village, where the world's shortest river is located: the Correntoso River. It’s so short that you can see its source and mouth in one single look.

The constructions in alpine wood, and its colorful vegetation make Villa La Angostura known as the “Garden of Patagonia”. You will take the “merienda” (a wonderful meal in between lunch and dinner) in a traditional German-Argentine patisserie: Cucu Schulz. When you take a bite of their delicious cakes, you will understand why everyone is obsessed about this place.

What to bring to Route of the Seven Lakes

In Patagonia they say they dress "in layers like onions". The temperature can vary a lot in the same day: hot at noon and cool at night or rain without cold. Be prepared for temperature changes. We recommend you to take:
  • Passport or identity document.
  • Warm clothing (all year round)
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen and lip balm
  • Cash for possible additional expenses (in Argentine pesos)

Accommodation pick-up is included only for downtown hotels. If your accommodation is not located in that area, the meeting point will be indicated with the booking confirmation. This will be located in the center of Bariloche, where you will have to show up at 8:00 a.m.
