Laguna de los Tres Trekking

Route: Circular - 25 kilometers in total with 800 meters of accumulated positive difference in altitude.

Pick up in El Calafate and arrival in El Chaltén

You will be picked up at your hotel in El Calafate at 6:00 am. From there, you will begin a journey of 220 km to the town of El Chaltén, that is, about 3 hours of travel, passing through the mythical Route 40 along the Lago Argentino.

Once in El Chaltén, we will make a short stop for those who wish to go to the bathroom or rest. At this time, a second trekking guide will join the group and will accompany us throughout the hike.

Laguna de los Tres Trek

The trailhead is located at the Puente del Río Eléctrico, only 14 km from El Chaltén. Here we will have lunch and start our hike.

In the first section we will walk for an hour and a half until we reach the Piedras Blancas viewpoint. After the Piedras Blancas glacier viewpoint, the trail slowly descends to the meeting point near the Poincenot Base Camp, where the group arrives at approximately 11:30 am.

Here the group can be divided depending on whether you prefer to do a more demanding route towards Laguna Capri, or if, on the contrary, you prefer a more moderate route towards Laguna de los Tres. Both groups will have their corresponding guide and will stop to rest, eat and enjoy the surroundings. Take the opportunity to take some souvenir photos from one of the most beautiful viewpoints 📸.

Trail to El Chaltén

After the rest, we start the hardest kilometers of the trek towards the town of El Chaltén.

The return trail is the same, so we will pass by Laguna Capri again, which you can visit to take pictures of Cerro Fitz Roy in the background.

Return to El Calafate

Once you arrive to the town of El Chalten, the transfer will be waiting for you to start the return trip. The Laguna de los Tres Trek will have come to an end, but the memories of this place will stay with you forever. You will be back in El Calafate around 22:00 at night.

Where does the tour Hiking Laguna de los Tres from El Calafate start

The city of El Calafate is located 3,000 km from Buenos Aires, and 325 km from the city of Río Gallegos, capital of the province of Santa Cruz. The airport has direct daily connections with Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, Bariloche, Trelew, Cordoba and Rosario. Several airlines operate this route, being Aerolineas Argentinas the most frequent one. If you want to arrive by land you can do it by bus. The trip between Buenos Aires and El Calafate takes about 36 hours. From Río Gallegos, the trip takes 4 hours. If you come from Puerto Natales we recommend you to take a bus that arrives to El Calafate in about five hours or hire a private service with us. Finally, if you are traveling from Ushuaia, please check the waiting times due to the crossing of the Strait of Magellan or stopover in Rio Gallegos.

    If your accommodation is not one of the main hotels in the city, we will indicate a pick-up point nearby.

  • Is this tour suitable for all people?

    No, this tour is not suitable for pregnant women, people with heart problems, overweight, asthma, diabetics or with knee problems.

  • If the weather is bad, is the tour cancelled?

    The excursion is not cancelled due to bad weather, but depending on the weather conditions during the hike, it will be at the guide's discretion whether to continue with the section to Laguna de los 3 or return through Laguna Capri.

  • If I am over 55 years old, can't I take the tour?

    No, unless you have demonstrable experience in trekking and mountain activities. If so, please contact the agency.
