Hike through the Argentinean mountains





Travel through the most magical mountains and forests of Patagonia Argentina. Travel to the town of El Chalten from El Calafate and embark on the trail of the two lagoons. The trek will start in the town of El Chaltén, passing by the Capri Lagoon that will take you to the foot of Mount Fitz Roy until you reach the incredible Laguna de los Tres, a magical place that will leave you speechless.

Important information
If you are not staying at any of the main hotels in El Calafate, please let us know where you are staying so we can arrange a pick-up point.
This activity is self-guided, so you will have to walk the trail on your own. We will provide you with a map of the area with all the information you need.

Tour itinerary
Laguna de los Tres Hike
Duration: 8-9 hours
Difficulty: High
Route: Circular - 25 kilometers in total with 800 meters of accumulated positive difference in altitude.
Pick up in El Calafate
You will be picked up at your hotel in El Calafate at 6:00 am. From there, you will begin a 220 km trip to the town of El Chaltén, passing through the mythical Ruta 40 along the shores of Lago Argentino. Your adventure begins!

Laguna de los Tres Trekking
It is time to start the hike, remember that it is a self-guided trek and the transfer will be waiting for you once you finish. You will cover a total of 20km accumulating 1,200 meters of altitude.
During the first 4km you will warm up, crossing the Andean forest contemplating the wonderful landscape of the Rio de las Vueltas Valley and the animals that live there. You have arrived at the Laguna de los Tres! Here you will have time to rest, have lunch and enjoy the place. Take the opportunity to take some souvenir photos from one of the most beautiful viewpoints 📸.

Trail to El Chaltén
After the rest, you will take the same trail until kilometer 8 where you will find the Poincenot Camping and the Blanco River. From here the hardest kilometers of the trek start heading to the town of El Chaltén. Keep an eye on your time as the descent to the village takes about 4 hours.
The return trail is the same, but pay attention to the only detour point. You should take the trail that leads to Laguna Capri, which you can visit to take pictures of Cerro Fitz Roy in the background.

Return to El Calafate
Once you arrive at the town of El Chaltén, the transfer will be waiting for you to start the return trip. The Laguna de los Tres Hike will have come to an end, but the memories of this place will stay with you forever. You will be back in El Calafate around 10:00 pm at night.

Where does the tour Laguna de los Tres Hike start
The city of El Calafate is located 3,000 km from Buenos Aires, and 325 km from the city of Río Gallegos, capital of the province of Santa Cruz. The airport has direct daily connections with Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, Bariloche, Trelew, Cordoba and Rosario. Several airlines operate this route, being Aerolineas Argentinas the most frequent one. From Howlanders we also recommend you to check LADE airline.
If you want to arrive by land you can do it by bus. The trip between Buenos Aires and El Calafate takes about 36 hours. From Río Gallegos, the trip takes 4 hours. If you come from Puerto Natales we recommend you to take a bus that arrives to El Calafate in about five hours or hire a private service with us. Finally, if you are traveling from Ushuaia, please check the waiting times due to the crossing of the Strait of Magellan or stopover in Rio Gallegos.
