Get ready for one of the most rewarding hikes in Torres del Paine National Park. The Grey Glacier Hike is a full-day tour from Puerto Natales that combines a catamaran ride across Lake Pehoé with around 8 hours of hiking through mountain scenery, Patagonian forest and views over Grey Lake.
The goal is to reach the viewpoint overlooking Grey Glacier, a huge mass of ice flowing down from the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. Along the trail, you’ll hike beside Grey Lake before reaching the viewpoint, where you can see the glacier and the icebergs floating across the water.
With approximately 22 km (13.7 miles) of hiking, this is a demanding route best suited to travelers in good physical condition who want to experience Grey Glacier on foot during a day trip from Puerto Natales.

Tickets: To take this tour, it is essential to purchase three tickets (not included in the tour price):
- Entrance ticket to Torres del Paine National Park
- Catamaran Pudeto → Paine Grande ONE WAY at 8:30 AM
- Catamaran Paine Grande → Pudeto ONE WAY at 6:40 PM
The minimum age for this tour is 12 years old.
The arrival at the Mirador Lago Grey and the end of the excursion will be subject to the outbound and return sailings of the catamaran, the physical conditions of the passengers, the pace of the group and the weather conditions at the time.

Free cancellation! If you cancel at least 48 hours before the tour starts, you will receive 100% of the amount paid. After this time, or in case of no-show, no refunds will be given.

Pick up in Puerto Natales
Your adventure begins in Puerto Natales, where you'll meet your guide and fellow hikers. After collecting your trekking poles, we’ll hop on a van headed toward Torres del Paine National Park.
We’ll first check in at Laguna Amarga before continuing to Pudeto, where a scenic catamaran ride across Lake Pehoé will take us to the Paine Grande Lodge.
Trekking to Mirador Grey
Once we arrive at Paine Grande, the real journey begins. We’ll start our hike toward the Grey Glacier Viewpoint, passing stunning landscapes like the Paine Grande Mountain, Quebrada de los Vientos, and the shores of Grey Lake.
When we reach the viewpoint, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of one of Patagonia’s most iconic glaciers. It’s the perfect spot to take photos, rest, and enjoy your lunch (lunch not included)
Return and catamaran by Pudeto
After taking in the scenery, we’ll retrace our steps along the same trail back to Paine Grande. From there, we’ll board the catamaran again to return to Pudeto, where our van will be waiting to take us back to Puerto Natales—ending a full day of hiking to the unforgettable Grey Glacier Viewpoint.

Where does the tour start
Trekking to the Grey Glacier Viewpoint
The tour starts and ends in the city of Puerto Natales and includes pick up and return to your accommodation. Remember to indicate in the booking form the name of your accommodation in Puerto Natales.
- If you are traveling from Santiago de Chile the best method of arrival is by flying directly to Puerto Natales. The alternative is flying to Punta Arenas and then taking a bus (3:15 hours) to Puerto Natales Bus Station or booking a private transportation service with us.
- Direct buses to Puerto Natales are available if traveling from El Calafate (Argentina) with about a 5-hour trip time. For ease, with us, you can book a transfer from El Calafate to Puerto Natales or a direct transfer between El Calafate and Torres del Paine.

The hike is rated medium-high difficulty. It covers approximately 22 km (13.7 miles) and takes around 8 hours, so you should be in good physical condition and comfortable hiking for several hours on mountain trails.
What food is included, and what should I bring for the hike?
A lunchbox is included in the tour. Since the full excursion lasts around 15 hours and the hike itself takes approximately 8 hours, we also recommend bringing enough water and some additional snacks or food to complement the included lunch.
What is the difference between this hike and other Grey Glacier tours?
This hike is a good choice if you want to reach the Grey Glacier viewpoint on foot during a full-day tour from Puerto Natales. Transportation to Torres del Paine is included, and the hike begins at Paine Grande after crossing Lake Pehoé by catamaran.
If you prefer a less hiking-focused experience, the Grey Glacier Navigation also departs from Puerto Natales and takes you across Grey Lake by boat for close-up views of the glacier.
The Grey Glacier Kayak and Grey Glacier Ice Hike are different experiences. Both start in the Grey sector, so you need to reach that area on your own beforehand. The kayak tour takes you among icebergs on Grey Lake, while the ice hike lets you walk directly on the glacier using crampons.
