Tripadvisor picture
During these four days in Iquitos, we will get to know the heart of the Peruvian Amazon. We will stay on the edge of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, in a lodge that is part of a rural tourism project run by a native community. We will navigate through its river, walk through the jungle, have the chance to experience the sounds of nature, see birds, monkeys, caimans and even pink dolphins while enjoying one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world. The order of the proposed activities is indicative, since this is a fully customizable tour in which you can decide with the guide what activities you want to do at any given time.

Tour itinerary

todayDAY 1 Transfer to the lodge - Sunset with the pink dolphins

The guide will pick us up at our accommodation or the airport, according to what the group prefers. In case of choosing hotel pick-up, we will be collected at 8:00 AM in the morning. If you prefer the airport pick-up instead, please indicate the arrival time of your flight when processing the reservation or later on, once you have booked the tour.
We will then head to Nauta in a two-hour tour. Once we arrive there, we will embark on the boat that will take us to our lodge. The lodge is located next to the Ucayali river, right in front of the extensive Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. During the boat tour the guide will explain all the activities that we will be able to enjoy. Upon arrival at the lodge you will be accommodated in your private room and after lunch, we will start the adventure in the Amazon by boat, enjoying the wonderful sunset and swimming close to the famous pink dolphins. We will return to the lodge for dinner and in the evening we can participate in an expedition in search of the nocturnal animals that live in the jungle.

todayDAY 2 Walk through the jungle - Monkey area

After breakfast we will go on a walk through the jungle to admire the spectacular nature of the Amazon. During this trip, the guide explains everything you can see: different species of birds, the plants that surround us and other indigenous animals. Afterwards, we will return to the lodge to eat, rest for a while and later we are going to board the boat again to make bird sightings. Depending on the season and the recommendation of the guide, we will also sail to an area where we can find many monkeys.
After our excursion to spot monkeys, we will return to the lodge to enjoy a relaxed dinner and then we will have the chance to go out on the boat to look for alligators with only our lanterns and the natural light of the night. Seeing the reflection of the alligator’s bright and vivid eyes staring back at you from the darkness is what adventures are made out of!

todayDAY 3 The heart of the jungle

Today, we continue to enjoy the unique experience of being in the very heart of the Peruvian Amazon. We can take the boats to continue discovering the precious virgin nature, where we keep our eyes and ears wide open so we don't lose track of all the diverse animals that inhabit the lush and dense vegetation. We can also fish for piranhas in the river and hike in the jungle. And after the beautiful sunset above the majestic trees, we will go around the lodge in the light of our lanterns to discover the nocturnal animals of the jungle.

todayDAY 4 The sounds of the jungle

After a short night, we will get up early to enjoy the sounds of the jungle during the morning. At this time of the day, the animals are more active and a lot more noisy, so we will definitely get a good wake-up call. After our breakfast we can go fishing for some more piranhas. Later we will visit a colony of the impressive Amazonian giant water lilies. After this last activity, we will return back to the lodge to eat one last time together before we board the boat again to return to Iquitos. We will safely arrive in Iquitos between 9:00 am - 6:00 PM depending on your agreement with the guide or in accordance with your flight schedules.

We had a very great time at Libertad Jungle Lodge! The lodge is located in the middle of the jungle on the banks of the Amazon River. The facilities are very rustic and basic but for the exotic aspect, it’s fantastic. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The guides are excellent and know the area well. We had the opportunity to see nature in action. I strongly recommend this tour!
