The tour starts with the pick-up at your accommodation in El Calafate to take Route 40, bordering Lake Argentino and the Santa Cruz River from the road until you reach the stop at the historic Hotel La Leona. The tour continues towards El Chaltén, bordering Lake Viedma and advancing along the Andes Mountains until you change vehicles and connect with Route 23, which leads to the southern tip of Lago del Desierto. There you will embark to sail to the Vespignani Reserve and choose between 3 self-guided trails with views of the Vespignani Glacier, the Huemul Glacier and the north face of Cerro Fitz Roy.

After the hike, you will return by boat to the southern tip to start the return trip by road to your accommodation in El Calafate.

Lago del Desierto Boat Tour & Vespignani from El Calafate

Pick up in El Calafate📍

Pick up starts around 07:30 am at the hotels in El Calafate to start the departure to Route 40. Bordering Lake Argentino, Santa Cruz River and La Leona River where after 1 hour and a quarter you will arrive at Hotel Campo La Leona, where a short stop is made.

Stopover at La Leona and on the way to Lago del Desierto 🚐.

Next you will border Lago Viedma and you will be able to observe the Andes Mountains in the background. After 3 hours of riding you will arrive to the mountain village El Chalten where we will make a stop and do a change of vehicle to one more adapted to route 23 where the ride will be 37 km for about two hours.

Arrival at Punta Sur and navigation to the Vespignani Reserve 🛳️

Once you arrive at Punta Sur you embark to the Vespignani reserve. During the 20 minute sailing you will be able to see the Huemul and Vespignani Glaciers and the north face of Mount Fitz Roy.

Treeking to the Vespignani Glacier 🏔️

On arrival you will find a dome with a guide who will explain the types of trails you can do, you have 3 trails with 3 different difficulties, low, medium and high; once selected the route you will have two hours to make the journey in which in the medium and high routes you can better observe the Vespignani glacier and again the north face of Mount Fitz Roy and on the way back you can enjoy a well-deserved coffee, chocolate and cookies.

Return to El Calafate📍

Around 3:00 pm approximately you will be arriving back to Punta Sur to return to the town of El Chaltén and transfer to the vehicle for the return to Calafate where you will be dropped off around 8:00 pm.
