Briefing

Explore the Viedma Glacier with a combined navigation and trekking excursion to Cabo de Hornos, in the depths of Patagonia. In this glacier navigation Viedma El Chaltén you will leave from Bahía Túnel in a 40-minute navigation to Cabo de Hornos, where you will make a low difficulty trekking always accompanied by a specialized guide, who will set the pace of the group and will help you during the tour. From there you will be able to calmly observe the Bahía de los Témpanos and its floating ice blocks. Then you will return to the boat to continue the excursion with the sighting and approach to the Viedma Glacier, appreciating its blue tones, its textures and its history.

Navigation and Viedma Glacier

Departure from Bahía Túnel 📍.

You will start the tour with a navigation on Lake Viedma that takes place from Bahía Túnel, a port located about 15 km from El Chaltén. If you add the transfer, you will leave at 10:00 from a meeting point in the center of El Chaltén (you must be there at least 15 minutes before). If you go on your own, you must be at Bahía Túnel to board a catamaran at 10:30 a.m., also at least 15 minutes in advance. During the navigation you will skirt the shore of the lake and you will be able to see the silhouette of the Huemul massif and some of the most important mountains of this Patagonian region, gradually entering the heart of Patagonia in an authentic Viedma glacier navigation.

Trekking in Cape Horn 🚶‍♀️‍➡️

You will arrive at Cape Horn, where you will do a trekking of mild difficulty always accompanied by a specialized guide, who will set the pace of the group and will help you during the tour. You will enter the panoramic view of the Cape Horn peninsula and you will be able to observe the famous Bahía de los Témpanos, with its floating icebergs, lagoons of reflections and virgin nature. From this viewpoint you will have a privileged view of the surroundings and Lake Viedma before returning to the boat to continue the excursion.

Viedma Glacier Sighting and return 🏔️

On the way back to the ship and after a small snack, you will continue the navigation to approach the Viedma Glacier and enjoy its blue tones, textures and shapes while the guide explains its formation and history. Then you will start your return to Bahía Túnel, arriving at the port around 14:30. If you have hired the transfer, you will return by vehicle to the center of El Chaltén, where you will arrive at approximately 15:00, thus completing a combined navigation and trekking excursion on the Viedma Glacier.

    The entrance fee is not included in the tour and must be purchased in advance through the official website of Parques Nacionales. Select the Los Cóndores Portal when making the purchase.

    No, the tour only includes a snack and you can take food and drinks with you from El Chaltén or wait for the end of the tour knowing that it will be finished before 15:00.

    The activity lasts approximately 4 hours if you go on your own (10:30 to 14:30). If you hire the transfer, the total duration is about 5 hours (10:00 to 15:00 approx.).

  • What happens if weather conditions are not favorable?

    In case of bad weather, the tour will be rescheduled for another available date or a refund will be offered according to cancellation policies.

  • What clothes should I wear to board the vessel?

    We recommend that you wear warm and comfortable clothing, such as a waterproof jacket, hat, gloves, and appropriate footwear. It is also useful to bring sunglasses and sunscreen.
