Questions & Answers
What happens if I arrive hours before the tour starts or my return bus leaves hours after the tour ends?
No worries! Howlanders get access to certain lodge areas—like showers, hammocks, and beds—to rest until the tour begins. Plus, breakfast is included to help you recharge before your adventure. This service depends on your arrival or departure times and will be available until flights return to their normal schedules.
Is it safe to tour the Amazon rainforest?
Absolutely. Our guides are local professionals with deep knowledge of the area. As long as you follow their instructions and stick to the trails, you should have a safe and enjoyable experience.
What are the differences between the Madidi tour and the Pampas tour?
The main difference lies in the type of experience each offers:
- Madidi National Park is a deep dive into the dense Amazon rainforest. Through guided hikes, you’ll learn about medicinal plants, local traditions, and indigenous culture while immersing yourself in a lush, humid, and vibrant environment. It’s perfect for travelers seeking a genuine connection with nature and a more reflective experience.
- In contrast, the Pampas del Yacuma are floodplains and water channels surrounded by low vegetation, which makes wildlife spotting easier. Here, you’ll often see caimans, capybaras, playful monkeys, anacondas, exotic birds, and the famous pink river dolphins. Activities include boat rides, piranha fishing, and sunset watching.
These two destinations complement each other beautifully. Many travelers take the combined four-day tour for the full experience.
What kind of food is offered during the tour?
At the ecolodge, you’ll enjoy delicious, varied, and nutritious meals designed to keep your energy up throughout the tour.
The menu blends traditional Bolivian and international dishes, made with fresh, local ingredients like rice, vegetables, meat, fish, chicken, and fruits—all organically grown by nearby communities.
You’ll have the chance to try traditional specialties such as dunucuabi (fish cooked in leaves), fish in tacuara, majadito, masaco, sonso, and more. If you follow a vegetarian or vegan diet, don’t worry—there are specially prepared options just for you.
Are there vegetarian or vegan options at meals?
Of course! At each meal you will have several options to choose from, and at least one will always be suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
What is the lodging like in Madidi?
The lodge is nestled in the heart of Madidi National Park’s tropical forest, about 2.5 hours by boat from Rurrenabaque. It features 9 traditional Amazonian-style cabins with a total capacity of 25 guests.
Rooms can be double, triple, or shared (up to 5 beds), with private or shared bathrooms. Each room is equipped with mosquito nets, towels, biodegradable soap, toilet paper, and a bedside table.
After your hikes, you can relax in the hammocks offered throughout the lodge’s shaded areas.
Is there electricity and hot water?
Yes, the eco-lodge has electricity at specific times (generally through solar panels or generators) and hot showers.
However, being in a remote area, resources are limited, so responsible use is encouraged to preserve the environment.
Is there a cellular or Wi-Fi signal in the accommodation?
There is no cell phone coverage or Wi-Fi at the lodge. Communication is only possible via radio, which is used three times a day from the jungle lodge.
The only place to access Wi-Fi is at our office in Rurrenabaque, either before or after your tour.
What kind of weather should I expect during the tour?
The climate is typically tropical, with average temperatures around 32°C (90°F), ranging from 20°C to 35°C (68°F to 95°F). Humidity is high year-round, especially during the rainy season.
Between June and August, cold fronts called surazos can bring a sudden drop in temperature to 10–12°C (50–54°F), along with fog and humidity.
We recommend packing light clothing for the heat but also some warmer layers for cool nights or unexpected weather changes.
Is there space to store large suitcases in the office?
Yes! Our Rurrenabaque office has a secure luggage room where you can leave large backpacks or suitcases during your tour.
