After an hour and a half drive you will arrive at the Tatio Geysers, one of the most important geothermal fields in the world, and the largest in South America. As the sun rises through the columns of steam and the light filters through the mist, a unique atmosphere is created.

You will take the minibus again to visit another area of the geyser field and get to know another type of geysers, you will wait with your group for the eruptions of some of them and you will see the streams that form others, because each geyser is different.

The tour starts in San Pedro de Atacama and most travelers arrive from 3 zones:

  • From Santiago de Chile: the most advisable option is to do it by direct plane to Calama. Upon arrival you can take a transfer to San Pedro de Atacama. We recommend the company Transfer Pampa for being the most reliable.
  • From Peru: most probably you will arrive directly from Cuzco or Arequipa. In this case we recommend you to take a bus that crosses the Arica-Tacna border and then takes you to San Pedro de Atacama, although it is a somewhat complex combination, since it is necessary to combine several buses.
  • From Salta (Argentina): there is a direct bus that takes approximately 11 hours.

  • Is the weather in Geyseres del Tatio really very cold?

    Yes, both in winter and summer the weather during the first hours of the morning is very cold. We advise you to bring all the necessary warm clothes, if you don't need them you can leave them in the minibus, so don't worry if it seems excessive.

  • Can I suffer from altitude sickness in Geyseres del Tatio?

    If you have not done a minimum acclimatization to the altitude you may have symptoms, although you spend few hours at that altitude. We recommend acclimatizing first in San Pedro de Atacama and taking this tour on the second or third day of your stay in San Pedro.

  • Will we be able to bathe in hot springs?

    Unfortunately not. Maybe you have this question because previously you could bathe in the "pozón rústico", a thermal water pool located inside the geyser field itself, but since the pandemic it was closed and they have not enabled it again.
