The Grey Glacier Kayak is a must if you want to get to know the glacier in the most exciting way. With all the equipment on, we will paddle for two and a half hours with a group around the glacier on a route led by your bilingual guide. He will explain the curiosities of Torres del Paine National Park and Grey Glacier.

The tour starts and ends at Grey Base Camp located 10 minutes walk from Grey Camping and Refuge, inside Torres del Paine National Park. Please note:

  • To be able to take the tour on the first shift it is essential to be staying at the Grey Camping or Refuge the night before.
  • To be able to do the tour in the last shift it is essential to stay at the Camping or Refugio Grey at the end of the activity.
  • To be able to do the tour in the intermediate shift (11:00 AM) it is not essential to stay at the Camping or Refugio Grey but it is highly recommended.

On the reservation form you must indicate the night you are staying at Camping or Refugio Grey so that your reservation can be confirmed.

Inductive talk - Briefing

Once we have arrived at Grey Base Camp, the guide will be waiting for us to give us an introductory safety briefing. He will explain the best way to paddle, how to act depending on each situation, the route to follow and the weather conditions of that day.

In addition, he will give us all the equipment and we will be ready to paddle. Get your arms ready to start!

Navigation among icebergs

We will start the navigation led by the guide, paddling among the icebergs that have broken off in the bay. We will go to the east face of the glacier, reaching 100 meters from the walls of the Grey Glacier and admiring its immensity. Did you know that they reach up to 30 meters high?

Return to Grey Base Camp

We will return to the camp by the same route, but this time in the opposite direction, having paddled a total of 6 kilometers between icebergs. Half a day full of adrenaline in front of the majestic view of the wall of the centenary glacier. Have you already thought about where you are going to take your best picture?

Glacier moraine

If weather conditions permit, we will make a short stop at the moraine of the glacier: an island of rocks uncovered due to melting ice. There we will walk to a viewpoint where we will see the glacier from another point and the icebergs that have broken off. In addition, we will have a hot drink and a snack to replenish our strength for the return trip and end this kayaking experience on the Grey Glacier.

Where does the tour Kayaking in Grey Glacier start

The Grey Glacier Kayak tour starts and ends at the Grey Base Camp (inside Torres del Paine National Park), located in the Grey Beach area and a 10 minute walk from the Grey Refuge and Campground. The tour is designed for those travelers who are already inside the national park doing one of the Macizo Paine circuits.

If you plan to travel from Puerto Natales to the Grey Base Camp solely for the tour, keep in mind that you will need to spend at least one night at the Grey Refuge or Camping to fully enjoy this experience. There are 2 options to get to Grey Base Camp from Puerto Natales:

OPTION 1 - Grey III Navigation.

The Grey III navigation connects Hotel Grey with Refugio Grey through Grey Lake in a journey of approximately 45 minutes. It will be necessary to be at the Grey Hotel one hour before the departure time to check in. You can see the schedule and buy the ticket here. To get from Puerto Natales to the Grey Hotel you will have to take a regular bus or book a private transportation on your own.

OPTION 2 - Patagonian Ice Catamaran (Pudeto - Paine Grande)

The Patagonian Ice Catamaran connects Pudeto with Paine Grande through Lake Pehohe in approximately 30 minutes. It will be necessary to show up in advance at the Pudeto pier to buy the catamaran ticket and check-in. You can check the schedule and fares here. To get from Puerto Natales to Pudeto you will have to take a regular bus or book a private transport on your own. Once in Paine Grande, you will have to walk for 4 - 5 hours and 11 km until you reach Sector Grey.

In this option, you will cross Lake Pehoé on the Hielos Patagónicos catamaran. This trip lasts 30 minutes and then you will walk from Paine Grande to Camping Grey for approximately 4 hours. You will have to arrive beforehand on your own at the Pudeto Nursery sector. The purchase of these tickets is done directly on the catamaran, but you can see the rates and schedules.
