The Reindeer Tour Tromso + Sami Camp offers you the opportunity to learn first-hand about the history of these endearing animals and the traditional Sami culture.
We will be picked up by bus at the meeting point and head to the northern part of Tromso to visit a reindeer farm belonging to a local Sami family. The Sami culture will surprise you because it is one of the most enduring in Europe. You will discover their way of life; for example, how they make their traditional clothing and how they tame their reindeer. It will be a real immersion in their culture!
You will be accompanied by an expert guide who will not only introduce you to the reindeer, but will also explain the importance of these animals in Norway, and you will even be able to feed and play with them! In addition, this excursion is much more respectful of the reindeer as we do not offer a sleigh ride. The idea is that the whole family can enjoy these magnificent animals with much more interaction, especially children who love to spend time with them, pet them and feed them.

Reindeer visit tour in Tromso + Sami Camp
Duration: 3 hours
✨ Highlights: local Sami culture.
Pick up at the meeting point and transfer to the reindeer farm.
We will meet at the meeting point at the scheduled time and board our comfortable air-conditioned bus for the drive north to Tromso, where the reindeer farm is located.
The drive will take about half an hour and you will enjoy the views of the snowy forests. Once we arrive at the farm, be aware that reindeer may appear everywhere!
Reindeer experience
At the farm, the guide will explain in detail how sacred reindeer are to the Sami culture and the relationship they have had with it over the centuries. In addition, always following the indications you receive, you will be able to feed them, interact with them and even play. Did you know that their nose has "integrated heating"? Something very curious that you will also be able to see if you approach the reindeer.
Sami culture
To complete your experience in Tromso, your guide will introduce you to a traditional Sami family to tell you about their history and curiosities, and you will admire their colorful costumes!
You will also discover the technique of "throwing the lasso". This is how the Sami catch their reindeer to lead them with the rest of the herd.
Finally, you will enter a heated cabin where you will have a local snack and a drink to warm you up.
The final touch will be to have your photo taken with the Sami and the reindeer, which will be emailed to you the next day - a memorable moment!
Return to Tromso
The experience lasts 3 hours. After this time we will return to Tromso so that you can go back to your accommodation. We are sure that from now on, reindeer will be your favorite animal.

Tromso is located on one of the islands in the Norwegian Sea, so it has a cold and wet climate throughout the year, reaching temperatures below freezing in the winter months (November-March).
As in any Nordic climate you will need warm clothes, mainly thermal. Here is a summary of the essentials for visiting Norway at any time of the year:

Our meeting point is at the Magic Ice Bar in Tromso where the bus will pick you up at the scheduled time.
Tromso has an international airport so, depending on your country of origin, you can arrive directly.
It is also a very small city and you will find it very easy to find your way around.
In case you arrive first to Oslo or Bergen, you can also choose to take a domestic flight that takes about 2 hours. There is no train service to Tromso from these cities.

Although this is a family tour, and very suitable for children, the minimum age is 3 years old.
Does the tour include a reindeer sleigh ride?
No, this tour does not include the sleigh ride as it is focused on interacting directly with the reindeer and discovering the Sami culture.

No, reindeer (even male reindeer) are tame animals. In addition, the reindeer on the farm are domesticated so there is no risk. However, we ask you to always keep a respectful attitude with them following the guide's instructions to avoid any incident.
