Important information

Corcovado National Park has a very limited capacity, with only 100 people per day. It is one of the most biodiverse areas on the planet, so it is important to be extremely respectful of the environment and not leave the trails. In order to see as many animals as possible, it is key to be quiet and attentive to everything around you.

During the boat ride, we can be up to 16 people. Once we get to the park group will split in two (maximum of 8 people). During the boat trip, people who are prone to seasickness may get seasick.

Cancellation policy

If you cancel at least 72 hours before the start of the tour, you will receive 50% of the amount paid. After this time, or in case of no-show, no refunds will be made.

Corcovado National Park day tour from Drake Bay

Low difficulty
5 : 45 AM

Meeting at Drake Bay

At 5:45 in the morning your guide will be waiting for you at the meeting point in Drake Bay (Agujitas de Drake). We will meet the whole group and at 6:00 a.m. we will head to Corcovado National Park. The boat ride takes 1:45 hours.

👆 Howlanders' Tip:
If you have a tendency to get seasick, we recommend you to sit at the back of the boat and if you deem it necessary to take something to avoid seasickness. Also, if you sit on the left side of the boat you will have a view of the coast.

At 8 o'clock we will be inside the park, perfect to see all the animals, much more active during the first hours of the morning!

Little by little we will go into the park, first through the secondary forest area until we reach the Sirena Biological Station (where the Park Rangers and the travelers who take the Corcovado 2 Day Tour reside). Return

After approximately four hours of walking, we will start our way back to the beach through which we entered the park, where the boat will be waiting for us. On the way back, if schedules permit, we will be able to see the "La Llorona" waterfall, a spectacular waterfall directly into the sea.

Lunch

We will arrive at the beach from where we left Drake Bay around 13:30, and it is right there where we will have lunch together at a beachfront restaurant. If you have already read about the typical Costa Rican gastronomy you will know that good rice and beans are a must 🙂 When we finish eating, we will say goodbye to the guide and the rest of the group and end the tour. You will be just a few meters away from your accommodation in Agujitas de Drake.

Questions & Answers

  • Where can I find more details about the Corcovado tour?

We recommend you to read the post we have written in our blog about this tour to find additional information: My experience in Corcovado National Park: the review

  • What language will the guide speak to us on the Corcovado National Park tour?

English and Spanish. Depending on the number of participants and the size of the group, the guide will speak in both languages or two groups will be created, one for Spanish and one for English.
  • Why does the boat trip takes so long?

There are few roads in this area of the Osa Peninsula, so the only way to reach the entrance to the park is by boat. The boat is totally safe and equipped with life jackets. Along the way, if you're lucky you may even see dolphins jumping alongside the boat.
  • Will we visit the beach of San Josecito?

Before the pandemic, lunch was held on this beach, but due to sanitary measures this is no longer possible and all tours have been modified, with lunch being enjoyed at Drake Bay, in our case at the beachside restaurant.
  • How to get to the meeting point on the beach?

Walking :) Agujitas de Drake is such a small village that you will get there in less than 5 minutes. In the confirmation email, you will receive the exact meeting point, so you won't have any doubts.
  • Can you pick me up at an accommodation that is not in Agujitas de Drake?

Yes, it is possible to pick you up at different points along the route between Agujitas and Corcovado, just send us an email to hello@howlanders.com indicating your accommodation and we will confirm where the pickup point will be.
  • Any other tips for enjoying the Corcovado National Park tour?

Here's one more! If on the day of the tour you don't want to prepare your breakfast or your accommodation doesn't serve it so early, you can always have a coffee and some empanadas at the "Foodtruck Gaby" which is right on the beach, just 3 minutes from the meeting point. Tasty and cheap!
  • What animals will I be able to see on the tour?

Being a natural area, we cannot guarantee that you will see all the animals, but we can say that Corcovado is home to many animals, such as the jaguar, puma, monkeys (marmoset, araá, congo, and white-faced), pizote, macaws, anteaters, sloths, tapir and many more!
