🚶‍♂️ Good physical condition is required, as the route includes demanding ascents and descents.

🏔️ The maximum altitude is 10,007 ft (3,050 m), so a good acclimatization in Cusco is recommended before starting this trek.

🐴 Each traveler can carry up to 11 lbs (5 kg) on pack horses (including sleeping bag).

📵 During the trek, internet access and mobile signal is limited or non-existent.

⚠️ This tour requires a minimum of 2 participants to take place. If the minimum number is not met, the departure may be canceled or rescheduled.

Pick up in Cusco

The Choquequirao Trek 4 days begins with pickup from your accommodation in Cusco at 5:30 AM. Once the whole group is together, we’ll set off on a 4.5-hour drive to Capulliyoq, located at 9,564 feet (2,915 meters).

From this point, you’ll enjoy the most breathtaking views of the trek: the snow-capped Padreyoq and the impressive depth of the Apurímac Canyon.

Later, we’ll begin a three-hour descent along trails that wind through diverse landscapes until we reach Chikiska, where a freshly prepared lunch by our chef will be waiting. We’ll then continue to Playa Rosalinas, the lowest point of our descent.

Santa Rosa Camp

In the afternoon, we will resume our hike to the camp at Santa Rosa Baja (6,234 ft - 1,900 m). Upon arrival, we will be welcomed with hot drinks and snacks before enjoying our first Andean dinner under the starry sky. It's time to rest and recharge energy for the second day!

DAY 2 Santa Rosa - Marampata - Choquequirao

Ascent to Marampata

Rise and shine! At 5:00 AM, we’ll start the day with a cup of freshly brewed Peruvian coffee and a traditional Andean breakfast to fuel up. Then we’ll begin an uphill hike through Santa Rosa Alta until we reach Marampata, located at 9,596 feet (2,925 meters). From here, we’ll get our first glimpse of the Choquequirao citadel.

We’ll venture into the tropical jungle, where our guide will explain the unique features of the Andean flora and fauna. Along the way, keep an eye out for alpacas and llamas roaming freely in their natural habitat.

Marampata

Upon arriving at the Choquequirao campsite, we’ll enjoy a traditional lunch before heading out on a guided tour of the archaeological complex. Inside, we’ll explore key areas such as Pikawasi, the main square, ceremonial temples, and the Priest’s House.

After discovering every corner, we’ll take in the sunset before returning to our camp in Marampata. There, we’ll spend the night in tents and enjoy a hearty dinner to rest and recharge for the next day.

DAY 3 Marampata - Chikiska - Cocamansa

Descent to Marampata

This morning, we’ll wake up to the sound of birdsong and the first rays of sunshine! We'll start the day with a warm cup of coffee and a hearty breakfast to get us energized. After breakfast, we’ll begin our descent toward Santa Rosa Alta and Santa Rosa Baja, then continue our hike uphill to Chikiska.

Upon arriving at Chikiska, we’ll enjoy lunch and a well-deserved break before continuing our ascent to Cocamasana, our third campsite and where we’ll spend our final night.

After some well-earned rest, we’ll head down to Playa Rosalinas, where a freshly prepared lunch by our cook will be waiting. In the afternoon, we’ll hike through a lush tropical region until we reach the Chikiska campsite, where we’ll spend our third and final night under the stars.

DAY 4 Chikiska- Capulliyoq - Cusco

Hike to Capulliyoq

The day begins! After an early breakfast, we will start the last trek of the Choquequirao trek ascending for approximately 4 hours to Capulliyoq. On the way you will enjoy the last panoramic views of the Apurimac Canyon and the surrounding mountains.

Return to Cusco

Upon arrival at Capulliyoq, we will say goodbye to the team and board the vehicle that will take us back to Cusco. During the trip we will make some stops and enjoy a traditional lunch before arriving in the city around 5:00 pm.

To fully enjoy the 4-day Choquequirao Trek, it is essential to bring the right equipment. During the trek, you will cross diverse climates and terrains, from warm valleys to cold Andean heights. Here is a list of everything you will need for a comfortable and safe experience.

    The best time is between April and October, during the dry season. November to March is the rainy season, which can make the road more slippery and challenging.

    Previous experience is not mandatory, but a good physical condition is required, as the route includes demanding ascents and descents.

  • Is it necessary to acclimatize before the Choquequirao trek?
