Great Barrier Reef Snorkeling Tour​ from Cairns

Cairns is located in a tropical environment where rain usually stays near the mountains. Because our outer reef sites are located 25 miles (40 km) offshore, clouds rarely gather there, and skies are often clear. Even if it rains in town, conditions on the outer reef are usually ideal for snorkeling.

Cairns is the primary gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. Choosing a tour out of Cairns minimizes your ocean travel time so you can spend up to 5 full hours exploring the reef.

The optimal time to visit the Great Barrier Reef is from April to November, though conditions are great year-round. Water temperatures rarely drop below 79°F (26°C). In late fall (November/December following the full moon), visitors can witness the annual coral spawning event—a natural wonder often described as underwater multi-colored snowfall.

Lunch features a classic Australian BBQ with shrimp (prawns), fish, steak, and a selection of fresh tropical salads. We cater to vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free diets.

Important: Please notify us of any special dietary needs at least 48 hours prior to departure. Vegan meals are prepared on request only. Because vegan morning/afternoon snacks may be limited, bringing personal snacks is recommended.

During peak travel periods, the cruise accommodates up to 160 passengers. The luxury superyacht features two indoor air-conditioned lounges and three spacious outdoor decks, providing plenty of room for all guests.

Accessibility depends on weather, sea conditions, and operational needs. Guests requiring mobility assistance or special arrangements should contact our reservations team prior to booking.

Basic swimming ability is recommended, but non-swimmers can still participate. We provide complimentary flotation devices (life vests) and buoyancy aids. Please inform our crew upon boarding if you need extra support in the water.

Note: The vessel moors in deep water at the outer reef without a pontoon or island access, so there are no shallow wade-in areas.

Locations are selected daily based on weather conditions and water clarity to deliver the best snorkeling experience. Typically, your Great Barrier Reef snorkeling tour visits one of our outer reef sites (Norman Reef or Saxon Reef) in the morning, followed by North Hastings Reef in the afternoon for snorkeling, scenic helicopter flights, and semi-submersible tours.

If you plan to add scuba diving to your Great Barrier Reef snorkeling tour, please review the following conditions:

• Medical Clearance: All divers must complete a Queensland Medical Questionnaire onboard. Divers over age 65 (or age 45+ for PADI courses), as well as those with certain medical conditions or medications, must provide written medical clearance from a doctor.
• Certifications: Certified divers must present a valid, internationally recognized scuba certification card.
• Flight Safety: Diving rules require waiting at least 24 hours after your last dive before flying on a commercial airplane (this restriction does not apply to the 10-minute low-altitude helicopter flight).
• Refund Policy: No refunds are issued for voluntary or uncompleted dives.
