Passengers on Milford Sound scenic coach

Milford Sound Cruise

Upon arrival at the main pier in Milford Sound, you’ll disembark the coach and board a scenic cruise lasting approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

As you glide through the fjord, you’ll be surrounded by towering granite cliffs and spectacular waterfalls like Stirling Falls. At times, the boat gets close enough for you to feel the refreshing mist on your face.

You can also enjoy a complimentary picnic lunch during the trip, which you can collect from the bar onboard the boat.

💡HOWLANDERS TIP: Make sure to step out onto the deck whenever you can—it’s the best way to get up close to the waterfalls, spot seals resting on the rocks, and fully experience the fjord, even if it’s a little cold or rainy.

Questions & Answers

  • What is the minimum and maximum number of passengers for the Milford Sound Coach Cruise Fly?

Flights are subject to minimum passenger requirements to operate: a minimum of 2 passengers is required for Milford Sound departures. The fleet includes two 7-passenger aircraft and two 13-passenger aircraft, with all seats positioned by the window to ensure a panoramic experience.

  • Is there a maximum baggage weight per passenger?

There is no maximum weight limit for passenger luggage, as long as it can be comfortably stored on your lap or at your feet during the flight. In most cases, a small daypack with essentials such as sunscreen, a water bottle, a camera, and some food is all you’ll need.

If you plan to bring photographic equipment or a child’s travel stroller, please let us know in advance so we can account for the additional weight. Some aircraft are equipped with a small cargo compartment for these items.

  • Where can I leave my luggage the tour?

You can leave your luggage at our office for the duration of the tour. Secure storage is available while you’re out on the activity, allowing you to enjoy the experience with complete peace of mind and comfort.

  • Can babies and small children travel and is it possible to take a stroller?

Infants aged 0 to 2 years (under 33 lbs / 15 kg ) travel for free* and must sit on an adult’s lap. We recommend using a BabyBjörn-style carrier for added safety and comfort. If you don’t have one, a child safety belt that attaches to the adult’s seatbelt will be provided. It is very uncommon for babies to become unsettled during the flight.

In some cases, there may be space to bring a small stroller on board, although this is usually not necessary as the tour does not involve long walking distances.

  • Is there a weight limit per passenger for this tour?

Yes, it is necessary to ensure that aircraft operate within their maximum weight limits and maintain the correct center of gravity. For this reason, we ask you to provide passenger weights at the time of booking.

If any passenger weighs 308 lbs (140 kg) or more, please contact us directly before booking. If a passenger’s actual weight at check-in differs by more than 33 lbs (15 kg) from the weight declared at the time of booking, the aircraft’s weight and balance limits may be exceeded, and the reservation may need to be rescheduled depending on availability.

  • Is food available on the cruise?

Yes. Complimentary water, coffee, and tea are available during the cruise. In addition, there is a café/bar on board offering a selection of food and beverages for purchase. Card payments are accepted, although it’s recommended to bring some cash as connectivity in the fjord may be limited.

You are also welcome to bring your own takeaway food. Please note that alcohol from outside is not permitted, but it can be purchased on board.
