Pick-up from your accommodation and transfer to the Posio region

At the scheduled time, we’ll pick you up from your accommodation in Rovaniemi and board a heated minibus for the journey southeast to the Posio region. This drive takes about an hour and a half, and you’ll enjoy scenic views of small Finnish villages and snow-covered forests.

Hike through the Kurouoma Valley

Once we reach the starting point of the hike, your guide will explain some basic tips for walking through areas with deep snow. You’ll hike for about 2 hours through snowy forests near the Korojoki River. You might even see the river frozen over! Along the way, the guide will show you magical spots and share the history of the waterfalls—our next destination.

As we move forward on the trail, we’ll get closer to the stunning frozen waterfalls of Korouoma—and voilà!—they’ll leave you speechless. Breathe in the fresh air and take in the pristine white snow. You’ll have enough time to rest, get close to the waterfalls, and snap all the photos you want. Plus, to help you warm up, your guide will serve you a hot drink—usually chocolate or tea.

Return to Rovaniemi

After some time enjoying the waterfalls, the minibus will be waiting nearby to take us back to Rovaniemi, where we’ll drop you off at your accommodation. You’ll definitely appreciate the heated ride on the way back! The return drive will take about an hour and a half.

Rovaniemi is located near the Arctic Circle, so it has a cold climate almost year-round, with sub-zero temperatures during the winter months (November–March).

As with any Nordic climate, you’ll need warm clothing, especially thermal wear. While this activity offers rental gear as an extra, here’s a quick list of essentials for visiting Rovaniemi at any time of year:

If you come with children, keep in mind that some sections will have very high layers of snow and because of their height, they will have more difficulty walking, but the guide will help you at all times. Remember that children under 4 years old are not allowed.

  • Are food and beverages included?

    Hot drinks are included in the tour and will be provided at the end of the tour when we arrive at the waterfalls. If you want something to eat, you can bring it and enjoy it when we take a break.

  • Is thermal clothing rental included?

    No, only snow boots are included, which you can purchase as an extra at the time of booking. However, you will have to bring your own clothes.

  • Is the journey through the snow complicated?

    The hike is not complicated as long as we follow the advice and guidelines of the guide who will lead us through the easiest areas. In any case, if you do not have experience hiking in the snow, we recommend that you inform the guide to avoid any kind of incident.

  • What is the season of this tour?

    This is a winter tour, so it operates between November and April.
